WORTH COUNTY CONSERVATION BOARD

MINUTES

APRIL 3, 2008

President Vansteenburg called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM.  Board members also present were Matt Smith, Justin Faber, Troy Christianson, and Randy Sime.  Others present were Dan Block and Dean Mueller.

Smith moved to approve the agenda.  Second by Sime.  Motion carried.

Smith moved to approve the minutes.  Second by Christianson.  Motion carried.

Director’s report:

  1. As you know our offer was not accepted on the Jenson property and has been sold.  There may be a CREP project at Silver Lake and it may be for sale.
  2. Will try and open the parks the week of the 14th.
  3. The male swan from Arkansas died from a broken wing.  The female had to be moved because a wild pair moved into the pen and attacked her.  If the wild pair nests in the area this spring we will need to move the other captive pair out of the area.
  4. ISU wants to start the archeological work at Silver Lake this month when the soil has dried out.
  5. SJR2002, the dedicated funding bill will be voted on by the full house in the next 2 weeks.  Please contact Rayhons to support the bill.
  6. HF2212 is the smoking ban bill and it includes the area surrounding public buildings.  This means we would need to determine the distance if any around the shelter at KQ for a no smoking ban, or it could be left as the whole park.
  7. There is a bill on the Governors desk that will allow a wide array of items to be negotiated by public employees.  If signed would make thing difficult for us and the Supervisors.
  8. Greve attempted to serve notice to Brandon Stark on the rent for the Shellrock area, but he has moved from the address on the lease.
  9. I will need to talk with Falk as the water level at KQ is the lowest I have ever seen.  Now would be a good time to work on the beach area and replace the retaining wall.  Should we continue with the boat ramp and the fishing pier?

Christianson moved to accept the Director’s report.  Second by Sime.  Motion carried.
